What could be the reason for this?

OS:ubuntu 12.04
Chrome version : 34.0.1847.116

This is due to implementation details. Emulation is available for the most pages though.

You can try to check "Show composited layer borders" in Rendering tab next to Emulation, and then disable and reenable emulation. If that doesn't help, there is no workaround. Sorry for inconvenience.
