Concerns about setting up Google mail for the first time.

We are looking at moving across to Google mail from our existing system hMail where everyone just uses IMAP to access their account.

It is a bit scary just pointing the MX record to google and hoping for the best but is this how it works?

If all of the accounts are set up does that mean they will just start working once the DNS has transferred?

Has anyone else been through this?
