500 Error updating backend

I get this intermittently, and today I can't seem to update my backends at all.  Here is the exception, any help is greatly appreciated:

It cleared up yesterday afternoon, but I was unable to update my backends for the entire first half of the day.  I've also seen this error other times in the past few months.  Any hopes for a fix, or tips on how to prevent this?
