Monica is not available to meet on Wednesday this week, so we will have our rescheduled meeting on Tuesday, May 26th (yep, tomorrow!). Sorry for the shorter than usual notice – May is such a busy time in the school, and for all of us.
We’ll use the same agenda as last week.
Can anyone advise if they have children of babysitting age who can attend to watch the little ones? Thank you.
Also, Raquel and I will be bringing the sign-up sheet for the Teacher’s Lunch volunteers. We will have to discuss the date for it as well, as we have it currently scheduled for the same date at the BBQ and this may be too much for volunteers. Alternate date is Wednesday June 17th.
Thanks,
Kellie

Hi John,
I can’t do tomorrow, but did we ever get the numbers from Lady Evelyn for those living in the glebe for tonight?

As I am sure you know, going from Clegg to 5th Avenue without a footbridge represents a 20 minute detour by foot (via Pretoria Bridge, from point to point = 1.8 kms).
To put this into 'car' terms, such a delay would represent an approximate 17 km driving detour within the city (@ 50 km/hr), while it would represent a 27 km detour for someone driving outside the city (@ 80 km /hr).
I thought such terms might be compelling when addressing people who do not often travel by foot - particularly those in the suberbs and rural areas (i.e. city or NCC representatives who live outside the city). It might be difficult for such persons to appreciate how much of an obstruction 1.8 kms is to people who do not, or cannot, drive to their destination.
Consider also circumstances when the pretoria bridge is up or blocked off for construction (which, by the way, creates a 3 km span between the Corktown and Bank Street access points). When the Pretoria Bridge is up or blocked off, cars can detour using the 417. Bikes and pedestrians obviously cannot and it adds a 30 minute detour by foot (between Clegg and 5th, via Bank, = 2.7 kms).
In 'car' terms, this delay represents approximately a 25 km detour within the city and a 45 km detour for someone travelling outside the city.
Perhaps these numbers have already been contemplated, but if not I hope they can be of assistance.
-Kurtis.
I do this walk often to get to work. Boy I must walk slow. It takes me 30 minutes to do this walk on a good day (short legs? Or getting old??) On a bad weather day it can take me 40. So now calculate that! Good idea translate into car terms.
