Hello my jolly minions,

A little hackfest update.

First I have managed to secure the venue, though only from the 27th to the 2th, as Microsoft NERD was fully booked on the 26th, additionally they will be unable to give us the same room every day due to other commitments. However I felt the venue was so fantastic I decided to exercise my dictatorial powers of love and accepted their offer. Meaning we will have to work in a lobby or do planning over lunch and/or dinner on day one. I figure that will be fine since most people indicated that we would arrive during day one as it is. Which means, we are now officially sponsored by Microsoft, how cool is that?

Secondly Fluendo have kindly agreed to provide a sponsorship of 1000$ which has allowed Andreia to be flown in from Portugal, so a big thank you to Fluendo.

Third..ly, GNOME's budget is much tighter this year than last year so they have no been able to commit to financial sponsorship yet due to our budget not being detailed enough. So I need for everyone to help figure out how many hotel rooms we need to finalize the budget.

I still have feelers out for some additional sponsorship money from other Mono using companies, so hopefully we will not be putting to much strain on GNOME but we really need to get some solid numbers for the budget as soon as possible.

Love, hugs and decorative shoulder dragons,
Uncle David

Thanks for the update. Wow that is so cool that Microsoft is helping us.

Cheers,

Udesh

Another little update, the nice people at Codice Software will be sending two of their programmers to work on a Plastic SCM extension for MonoDevelop. I would be grateful if attendees with MD experience would set some time aside to aid that project.

Additionally, a bit of information as to your duties as an attendee. Yes I don't just want your free labor, I also have conditions - that's the kind of loving dictator I am (sorry).

To live up to the terms of sponsorship, you will all be requested to blog your progress. Preferably daily but at least once during the event. Your blog post must also contain a tasteful little thank you to our sponsors as well as logos from them (which I will provide before the event). Simple and yet it pays the, mounting pile of, bills so please do it with a smile or at least without pounding my beautiful face to bits I have to offer something in return for cold hard cash.

Blogging sounds like fun to me, I was already fairly convinced that this
event would be blogworthy.

Regarding hotel rooms, do we have a final list of attendees, attendees
who will be needing a place to stay and finally attendees who will need
sponsorship/willing hosts for a stay? Speaking for myself, I think I'm
on all three lists. (Sharing rooms with awesome hacker people is of
course great and will probably contribute to increased hacking
productivity!)

I as I understand it. Stephen, Udesh, Andreia, You and Me need places
to stay for sure. Jared has offered to share a hotel room with someone
and Mike Hutchinson might be able to put someone up. Alan and Jeremie
are about 90% sure they can arrange stays with local Xamarin people so
I will count them in the no action required column.

I assume Andreia being of the female persuasion would prefer not
sharing a room with members of the cruder sex, but setting her up with
Mike's spare room might work. You and Jared are both Tomboy people so
sharing a room might turn out handy. So by my count we need rooms for
3 people, which will likely end up as 2 rooms which seems affordable
to me.

How close to the center do we want to be staying?

There's a very romantic place that isn't priced too bad :)

I am not afraid of a bit of walking or public transportation. We used
Google Maps with the public transport directions in Brussels last year
and it worked great. I looked around a bit at bnb's, other hotels and
the price for Kendall is quite competitive. However during the period
they only appear to have 1 queen or 1 king bed rooms available, which
might be a problem, though we are likely to be able to get an extra
bed or bring an air bed for sharing. Plus though, complimentary
breakfast, local micro brews in the bar and internet.. I can ask if
they offer a special Tomboy developer cuddle package if you want
romantic :)

Regardless it looks nice, close to the venue and close to public
transport. We should have excellent choices for lunch and dinner. And
it is close to an Apple Store, so we know where to locate Miguel if he
gets lost.

If Codice are looking for some help implementing a version control
addin, I am the maintainer of the existing addins, though my
monodevelop foo may not be strong enough to answer all their questions
:)
