Hi, My gmail keeps freezing up when I go to download attachments.
The gmail antivirus scanner locks up and gives me error code 717.
Then it locks into retrying and I have to close my browser and try
again. Once locked I am unable to do anything at all in gmail. This
has been going on for 2 weeks now and I am so frustrated. I updated
my firefox browser to 5.0.1 as suggested but that didn't help the
issue. I also get other error messages too but 717 is the most common
and happens on every e-mail with attachments. Help me please!!!!!!

Thanks, Janet

Hi Janet

Are you using Gears and Offline mail? If so, try disabling that. Did
you do the usual clear cache and cookies?

Hello,  no gears and no offline.  Yes I cleared cache and cookies and temp internet folder and still the same problem.  Same problem with the older firefox and the newer one.  I get a lot of attachments.  This is a huge issue for me.  Thanks for your time.

Hi Janet

Have you tried with a different browser, eg. Chrome?

I've heard coworkers talking about this issue, and from what I gathered out of some idle chit chat on the topic is that this usually happens when Google is rolling out new updates. That's when the problem seems most prevalent among users, and with Google+ a short ways away from public release, it's a rational explanation. Could be wrong, only time will tell.

Can you forward such messages (those with attachments) to another Gmail account? Do you encounter the same problem with the attachments on the second account? (I occasionally run into some weird kind of persistent problem with one of my accounts that I don't with my other accounts--might last a few days or a few weeks. This can be the result of an account anomaly or just a Google server problem.)
