I read the link but didn't think my message applied to it. It was only addressed to one person, without any cc/bcc at all and only contained one link to my website, and that was in my signature.

I think I may have resolved the issue as I haven't been having any rejections since I turned on google email authentication.

The recipient domain, sneakerpolitics.com employs spamexperts.com's filtering services, and they apparently think Google's SMTP server is responsible for sending spam. These kinds of blocks usually (but not always) expire after a certain amount of time, so I'd give it a day or two and try sending the message again. If you have another way of contacting sneakerpolitics.com, I'd do that and have them report the block to spamexperts.

I keep getting this as a thread message with almost every email I receive in my inbox, reffering to another email ID which is still very much in use.

1) What could be the reason, as the other email ID is still in function?

2) How to do away with this message once and for all so that such messages do not appear again?

The format of these failure responses dates back a long ways, long before Gmail existed. They are clearly not the most user-friendly messages, but as Andy indicated, they do tell you (in great detail) what happened, and why. The key for most users is the "550" line(s) - really, any 5xx code. The "550" is a precise error code from the mail server which rejected the message, and is generally the most common code. It means the recipient email address in the original message doesn't exist on the receiving server. By placing the code first, it allows software at the receiving end to simply snip off the code and deal with it, as appropriate. The rest of the line is a message for any user who might happen to read the response.

Here's a web page with all the SMTP message codes:

As end users, you will never see most of them. 550 is the exception.

Also, server software doesn't always get all the details exactly right. Further up this thread, someone noted this message:

> The error that the other server returned was:
> 550 High probability of spam

The code should probably have been 541...

Part of the problem on this list is that people treat it as free Gmail support, which it is not. They simply dump their error, without even reading it, doing their own troubleshooting or even so much as a 'hello' and expect that somebody will help them.

Is there some way to force people to view an introductory message (even
a short one) when they visit the group? I am a member of another
Google Group, Classic Rendezvous, which has a two-page set of rules
which greets you every time you use the group interface. That's a bit
over-the-top, but perhaps a few lines indicating that this is not a
Google-monitored help forum might help?

Not that Google directly supports many/any of their free services in an
obvious way...

Skip,

I've looked through the settings for the group, and can't figure out what your Classic Rendezvous group has done to set that up.  We have an ADMIN/Sticky discussion with the group rules, so that's always at the top, and I've edited our group discussion (appears at the top of the topics list) with a little blurb.  If you can figure out how CR did their little thing, I'd love to hear about it, so we can see about that type of change.

Funny thing... Neither could the CR group owner. :-)

That's the welcome message, which is displayed above the discussion topics, and matched the group description.  I've updated the welcome message with additional verbiage.

That looks exactly like where Dale dropped the CR rules. The last
update to that was in 2011, so it's not surprising he forgot what he'd
done or how he did it. Your change looks quite reasonable. If the
problem persists, you could perhaps highlight the phrase, "do some
troubleshooting of your own." I wouldn't bother unless the problem
doesn't improve.

Even for such a focused group (classic lightweight bikes built before
roughly 1984), note that Dale has to periodically remind people of the
CR rules. They are a bit restrictive, but mostly in a good way, to
keep the discussion on-topic. I wouldn't expect perfection from Gmail
users. :-)

The message you're receiving is from your mail server, telling you that something "you sent" couldn't be delivered cause the address you sent it to no longer exists/accepts mail.

I'd guess the e-mail you're seeing that you know is in use, it probably the one you're sending from, so it's returning the messages there.  If not, then either you're mistaken about it still being in function; OR that mail server is just not accepting the messages.  It could be because of a full mailbox, or some systems deny mail they suspect is spam.

If you'd post the full message of one of these, there are several people in this group that can properly decipher the message and tell you in plain english what the system is trying to tell you.

Surekha,
First, go to your Gmail Settings and check under Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
Are there any settings there to forward mail to the 'other active account'?
Second check your Filters, also in Settings.
Do you have any filters that are set to forward mail?

If you do have any forwarding set up, turn it off or cancel the filter. Also, if you have forwarding enabled, check carefully to see if there is a mistake in the address.

Do you always access your gmail on the web, or do you use another program like outlook?
Do you access e-mail on your phone, have you set up to send e-mail or notifications to your phone?

As Zack said, if you post the headers or original details of a 'failed delivery' message, someone here should be able to tell you what the problem is and why it is happening.

To post the original details, open the message and click on the little arrow next to "Reply", then choose "show original". Select all the text and copy it, then paste the text it into a reply to this thread.
You can use the "edit" menu in your Browser to "select all" and "copy" and "paste". Or you can put your cursor in the message and hold down the Ctrl key while you press 'A' on the keyboard to select all, (this instruction is written down as Ctrl+A). Ctrl+C will copy the selected text, and Ctrl+V will paste in windows.

If it is certain that the other e-mail address is active, and the mailbox is not full, and that you have no forwarding or filters set to send mail to that account, then someone may be spoofing the other e-mail address and
has put your gmail address as the return address on these emails.

Theses lines tell you exactly what the problem is:
Message will be retried for 2 more day(s)

Technical details of temporary failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the server for the recipient domain youraviationjob.com by youraviationjob.com. [80.241.222.43].

The error that the other server returned was:
451 Temporary local problem - please try later

Google was told to not deliver the message by the receiving server.  The reason that server told Google was "Temporary local problem"; and Google said I'll continue to retry for the next 2 days.  If after 2 days it's still not successful, it will send back another similar message.  Look for the lines like the ones I highlighted to tell you what the problem was then.

Laxman Kunwor,

Your error message states that "rfw...@csc.edu.cn" does not currently exist.

Do you have reason to believe that this email address actually does (still) exist?

I suggest contacting someone else at csc.edu.cn to see if that email address was correct, or how to contact that individual using another address, or telephone.

Andy

It is likely that you misspelled the address.

This is the address you used that bounced:

Because it is in an English-speaking country, it is likely (I think) that it should have been "finehealth" rather than "fineheatlh".

From what I'm reading, it seems you were sending using a from alias of your yahoo.com account, and it didn't like the username/password you supplied.

I have had the same problem for at least 7-8 years, and I do not use the failing email address anymore.

I have checked the forwarding email rules for both Gmail and Gmail calendar (where I am getting the messages from) and my old email address is not to be found anywhere.

Where do I check now?

Thanks,
Warron

This is the whole messages with headers included of an email I get sometimes when I create a calendar event or someone receives back from my Gmail account if they send me a calendar event to accept.

The dimnd...@comcast.net email address is no longer valid, and it hasn't been since 7-8 years ago when I switched from Comcast to Verizon FIOS.  I have looked in every nook and cranny of my Gmail settings several times over the years and still have not found the entry in my profile anywhere.

Can someone suggest how to resolve this annoying Gmail feature?

What "annoying Gmail feature" is that?  Do you mean the one where Comcast.net rejected the email that was sent to an address Comcast says doesn't exist?  How does Comcast's rejection count as a Gmail problem?

You must have something set up in your Google account that attempts to send a message to that Comcast.net address, either directly or indirectly (i.e., to another address, which then forwards it to the Comcast one).  Keep looking.  You just haven't found it yet.

I don't make a lot of use of Google Calendar, but there are several places in the Calendar Settings where notifications can be set.  Have you checked them all?  The forwarded headers from your bounce message seem to imply that the offending notification email message was directly addressed to the Comcast.net address, i.e., it isn't being forwarded by your Gmail.  I would take a closer look in Calendar.

I don't know if this helps, but I wonder if deleting the offending Calendar event and adding a new one, or turning off Notifications, would help.

The problem is embedded somewhere in the gmail code.  Comcast isn't sending the initial message; the google calendar is.  I am not explicitly including an old abandoned email address and neither are others trying to send me calendar invites.

If Google Calendar sends the message, why would the problem be embedded in Gmail code?  Gmail and Calendar are different programs.  It might have nothing whatsoever to do with Gmail; and I wouldn't go looking for an answer in your Gmail settings.  Look in your Calendar settings.

What has this got to do with Gmail?

As per the message, you are subscribed for new event notifications for that particular calendar. Check the settings for that calendar, as per my previous post.

I agree, they are different programs, but they use the same data, not necessarily from the exact same record (assuming the record might be duplicated).  I have looked in every field of the calendar settings and there is nothing referring to my old email address - nothing at all.

Oh, my reference to Gmail code is apparently a poor label/reference, but it is Google's code.  I signed up for this account several years ago.

This is a forum for Gmail discussion. Your issue is with Calendar notifications and has nothing to do with Gmail. You need to take this up in a forum for Google Calendar e.g. https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!forum/calendar

Gmail has to do with my calendar by the fact that my events added are added because of my gmail account as access to my Google Calendar.

I have looked at the settings for that calendar 3 more times yesterday.

You continue to complain to fellow users about a problem inside the code, which we can see no better than you can.  The alert is very clearly coming from the calendar, and I'm sure no email addresses are ever hardcoded into google's codes.

In fact, the nature of that error looks like the "user" subscribed to the calendar is a google account with the username of "dimnd...@comcast.net", ie an account created before gmail existed.  I still have a google account with a non-gmail e-mail associated with it, and it looks like you might too.  Have you tried logging into Google to look at the calendar with that e-mail as the username?

BTW... I just tried, and password recovery indicates that there *IS* a google account who's username is "dimnd...@comcast.net"  It would allow me to try to use password recovery by entering a previous password.  So, that's likely where you're getting those messages from.  You need to login to that Google account, and potentially delete it.

Hi Zack, I attempted to log into Gmail with the old invalid email address and it said my email address or password was invalid.  My password was stupid simple and I did not forget it; and the email address of course I know because we all know it.  It did work for logging in.

Might you have any other suggestions to offer, thanks for the help.

This seems to be getting further and further away from the OP.

I assume you meant to say "did _not_ work" above. So did you try the account recovery anyway, despite the 'stupid simple' password? Perhaps it was so stupid simple that your account was cracked (hacked).

I get that same message all the time when using gmail from this computer at work. My email in fact goes through. I can tell because I send test emails to myself and I ask my friends if it was received. It is just bothersome to almost always get this alert.

Any simple fixes?

Read the bounce message to find the email address that is failing.  It should be clearly shown, right after the line that says, "Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently".

Find out why your messages are being sent to that address.  Someone (perhaps you, perhaps they) may have something set up to auto-forward their messages to that address.  Find out why, and turn it off.

There is your simple fix.

If the address that fails is also the one that successfully receives your messages (unlikely), then ask them to contact their email administrators to find out why their system is misbehaving.  An email account cannot both receive and fail to receive a message at the same time.

The simple explanation is half-way down, where it says:

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

enqu...@mediacredit.co.nz
Technical details of permanent failure: Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the server for the recipient domain mediacredit.co.nz by cluster4.us.messagelabs.com. [216.82.241.211]. The error that the other server returned was: 550 Invalid recipient <enqu...@mediacredit.co.nz> (#5.1.1)

This means that the address "
enqu...@mediacredit.co.nz
" doesn't exist.  There you go, that is the answer.

So, you need to find another way to contact this person.  Either they left the company, or their email address changed, or you typed it incorrectly.  If you have a phone number, try it.  If you know someone else who knows him/her, ask them what happened to "enquires".

Is it possible that "enquires" is not a person's name, but is a word that should be spelled "enquiries" or "inquiries" or something similar?

Andy

We cannot fix it for you.

Either you are sending emails to addresses that do not exist (in which case it's your problem to fix), or some of the people you are sending them to, auto-forward their emails to nonexistent addresses (in which case it's their problem to fix).

As a stop-gap measure, you could create a Filter in your Gmail account so that you can pretend not to see those bounce messages, but it doesn't fix the problem.  I would recommend that you find why your email messages are going to addresses that don't exist, and fix that.

You mentioned Outlook.  Is this a problem that your Gmail account experiences?
