Cryptic error message on file creation

Hey Bruce,

I just wanted to point that the error message if one puts a colon in a program name is a little bit cryptic. I could see students running into it and not understanding what is going on when they try to call their program "PHYS 222: Lab 4" or whatever. Obviously this is way down on the priorities list, but I figured I'd point it out for next time you are working on the folder structure.
