7.7.2 - 7.91 source code upgrade db upgrade fails

ok, good day all,
i was running the script updater this morning on my 7.7.2 instance and the db migration failed with this:
Migrate DB
-> bundle exec rake db:migrate
rake aborted!

Failed to upgrade. Try to repeat task or proceed with upgrade manually
indeed there was no java installed on the system. i've installed oracle java 8 but i'm unsure how to restart the upgrade process. any help appreciated.

upon reflection i find this error rather odd. this server has been upgraded via upgrade script fairly regularly since version 6.9.x and has never exposed this error before. perhaps a bug in upgrade process?

there have been some changes and GitLab now needs nodejs to be installed
on your server.
