COMMIT_EDITMSG ignored in prepare-commit-msg hook

Hello

I want to populate the commit message dialog with programmatically generated information. Git has support for that by appending the custom text to COMMIT_EDITMSG in .git/hooks/prepare-commit-msg. Unfortunately, git-extensions does not read this file for populating the commit message dialog. What is the reason for that? Is there a workaround?
