NTIA PROGRAM |
The U.S. Department of Commerce and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration's Continuity of Business Panel Discussion will provide opportunities to learn about the experiences of companies in Chicago with (or without) diverse communications to deal with natural and man-made disasters. The program will focus on understanding factors considered in making the business
decision to invest in resilient communications capability, and on discussing what incentives might encourage further take-up of such alternative communications. Companies represented on the panel will include the telecommunications, transportation, manufacturing, and financial sectors. The program will also raise the awareness of companies concerning their need to acquire a robust and resilient communications capability that does not rely on wireline, wireless, or Internet modes. The focus on communications alternatives to traditional wireline, wireless, and Internet communications enhances continuity of business in the commercial sector, which is vital to the economy and orderly functioning of society. The panel discussion will present a forum for
Chicago industry representatives and Homeland Security officials to discuss issues related to continuity of business and disaster recovery, such as estimates of current/projected take-up costs and the business case for investing in alternative communications, incentives, identification of champions (e.g., companies and associations), and approaches to education and awareness. Participants are invited to attend a luncheon featuring keynote speakers from the Chicago Enterprise Program preceding the Continuity of Business Panel Discussion. |
