How to create Extended Heatmap Creation using ggplot

Hello All,

Can you please help me to plot the extended heatmap using ggplot shown in below link. It is used in an science article link:  https://www.nature.com/articles/s41590-019-0565-0 

I need to make upper two figures in the below link. Any help tutorial or related information is highly appreciable.

I tried a lot but I don't have the clue how did they make it.
