From MLIS to GIS

Hello All,

I have recently have earned my Masters in Library and Information Science and am very interested in having a career in GIS. I know that ideally I would have a MS in GIS, but with my current information education that I've earned, how would you suggest I proceed? Graduate Certificate? Other online education? What is the best way to gain experience using (and access to) the computer based GIS's if I don't have access to them now?
