Problems playing recent DVDs

Hello,

Most DVDs seem to play fine with the 'Play Disc'  button from the main menu, but I've noticed that many DVDs of recent origin don't play at all, or sometimes only play an advertisement before the player dies and the main XBMC screen suddenly reappears.

Is this a decryption problem? How can I fix this? The discs play fine in a standalone DVD player.

Also, is there some way I can use VLC as the DVD playing app? The geexbox site has a blog post about how "VLC has landed in GeeXBox" but I can't find any information as to how to install or enable it. It does not appear to be in the opkg repository.
