First Meetup or Hangout coming soon

Hi All, this group is brand-spankin new and the first meetup and/or hangout will be scheduled in the next few weeks. Still getting everything setup. Thanks for your patience.

Looks like we need to have 2 consecutive in-person meetups in order to have this GDG listed as "Active". I want to make that happen. What city would work for everyone? To start off, we should keep it simple, since our group will be very small. We can talk about what we want this group to become and what meetup formats should be like, where meetups should be, what topics should be covered, etc.

I'm thinking either Costa Mesa, Santa Ana, Irvine. We could maybe meet at a Coffee shop at the Irvine Spectrum or even at the Microsoft Store @ South Coast Mall.

Thoughts??

Since the events have to be recorded (https://developers.google.com/groups/requirements/), how about some place like UC Irvine? Seems like an appropriate place to meet given the strong computer science presence and the birthplace of REST. I'm sure we can book one of the rooms at the student center. Plus, there's a pub there. :)

I think by "recorded" it simply means that the needs to be listed on https://developers.google.com/events/. I'm verifying with a GDG admin on that. UCI sounds great. Whats the best way to get a room reserved?

Student center admin offices are closed today so I can't call and get more info, but we might try getting in touch with the computer science department. They might be interested in hosting us--position it as something potentially synergistic.

Miles--since you're the point person, would you like to reach out? I'm an alum there, so I feel comfortable reaching out and can help you make a bridge if you'd like.

Jimar, either way is good for me. I appreciate the help. :) What day/time do you guys like for meetups? Weekday evening? Weekend morning?

Either works for me. Mainly after 5 on weekdays and anytime on weekends.
