Hi,

I'm cross-posting an issue here to see if anyone has some ideas. As of some time ago, me and several others are having trouble building private images based on debian-8 in GCE using packer. The latest working version was debian-8-jessie-v20160329. Does anyone know if anything changed with the SSH handling or setup in the images after this date?

Error that we're getting: Build 'googlecompute' errored: ssh: handshake failed: ssh: unable to authenticate, attempted methods [none publickey], no supported methods remain

This isn't a GCE bug per se, but affects GCE users. Looking into work around using local user accounts, but that's a whitelist only feature right now.

Any ideas?

Regards,
Niklas

Turns out either packer has been updated, or GCE image that you now need to specify ssh_username as "debian". The issue has been closed https://github.com/mitchellh/packer/issues/3661#issuecomment-249763849

So nothing to see here :) Thank you
