I am trying to find games for my students to play in class on the Games for Change site as part of what I'm teaching and navigating is very difficult. Many of the games featured either have links that are no good or are games you have to pay for. In addition, you can't keep moving forward in a search. It starts you at the beginning each time. Is there a way of determining at least which games are free?

I don't have the answer you're seeking but just a comment. Wouldn't it be wonderful if Khan Academy linked free games specific to each subject area?

You can search for some games at www.EducationalComputerGaming.com, and there is a free game you can download on the home page that presents learning disabilities in an orientation of a school.

For educational games, GAME UP is the most complete collection of free content I’m aware of.

Hi Arthur,

I'm part of a group of educators who volunteer their time to curate and create free curriculum for impact games in the classroom.  Here's a link to our ChangeGamer site: http://www.changegamer.ca/games--activities.html

For each game we have info about the game, including whether or not it is free - for example, here is a screenshot of the info and curriculum for the game Electrocity:

Take care.

The directory is still in beta but every game at GAMES.NGO is free.

Our goal is to verify all links to games every 30 days in the hope that it will avoid the "link rot" you've experienced. Right now there are around 80 games but as we identify subject matter experts for each of the 21 categories we hope to grow this over time.

Dear Arthur,

Thank you for your message.

Please check out our new website with updated links to social impact games: http://www.gamesforchange.org/games/. We are currently working on adding a new filter that allows browsing for free games.

Hope this helps.

All the best,

The G4C Team
