Hey all!

I have purchased a new camcorder, a Canon Vixia HF R700, and a set of wireless lavaliere mics. My old camera, a Nikon J3, was designed for photography, not videography, and therefore the sensor would overheat after 10 minutes of videotaping. This new camera will not, I can record 1080p 60fps video all I want.

I was thinking of using it to record and document our monthly Demos, and any other random events we hold. I just saw that we have a javascript meetup tonight, but I'm not in town to attend. Let me know about any other meetings though, I'd love to come and record them.

If you have any ideas for videos, or do awesome stuff that you think people on youtube would love to check out, please, please let me know!

Looks cool! I'm not 100% sure about recording all demos, but I'm all for offering to presenters at least. Although.... I'm a little concerned about that camera's low light performance, especially given our less than bright projector... do you think it'll look good with that camera? 1/4.85" sensor at f/ 1.8 - f/ 4.5... I'm just not experienced enough to tell from the specs. But we might want to do some work on the lighting setup...

Also, I was suggesting we step up our promotional efforts a bit at the annual meeting. I'd love to see a 30-60 second promo clip with one or two points of interest for each open house. Even if it's just as simple as making a design on the mill live, or having a project like the "DIY Spot Welder" for display/demonstration/discussion. I imagined someone showing a video to a friend saying, "I'm going to see *insert-cool-project-here*, you should come too."

But my "production gear" isn't up to the task right now, and nobody else seemed particularly into the concept. So I wasn't sure when I'd be able to do something like that. What do you think?

Definitely, I'd only record people who'd want to be recorded. Ideally we'd have a way to do computer screen captures, either by picking up a capture card, or having a computer available for presenters to present from that can record it. Lighting might be a problem otherwise, but I won't know until I get to the space and try it out.

Having a promo video would be nice. Christian was doing weekly videos for a couple of weeks, I loved to see them. Maybe we can get that going on. People are working on some awesome projects, we should showcase them!

I am all for spearheading these projects, as long as people bring awesome projects to film :D

I ran some tests on Tuesday. The camera works perfectly to record the screen and the presenter, even with lights off. We could improve it by getting a presenter spotlight to highlight them, but I think it would be good enough to start recording demos, etc.

The wireless mics also work great. The lavaliere mic works well, the wireless range it large enough to cover the entire space. It picks up the speaker clearly, even with all the background noise that was present last night.

So, tl;dr, LETS RECORD AWESOME THINGS! :D
