Frontier Users,

I have a build of Frontier (OPML Editor actually) that runs on OS X Mavericks. It incorporates the work Brent Simmons did to replace Open Transport with BSD Sockets, as well as some bug fixed I found on the way.

You can download the compiled version here: http://bit.ly/1f3HKzY
The source is available on Github: https://github.com/tedchoward/Frontier

I would appreciate it if people could test this version out and let me know how well this is working.

This is a side project for me (I have a full time job and a 2-year old), but I am interested in keeping this application running well.

Thanks,

Ted Howard

This seems to be working so far. I will set it up to do the daily update on my ag management system (several hundred scripts and database tables)  and see what happens. I am enthused
at the prospect of having Frontier running on OSX 10.9.

In a one-out-of-one test, this is working for me on Mavericks.

Humorous side note: The last posting shown when I started this new version (10.1b19) was the announcement that Apple released Mavericks (and that was the date when I updated to 10.9 :-)

Refreshing (in OPML, choosing Tools -> River -> Scan now) caused me to see current items in the river.

Thanks, Ted!

Russ,

Thanks for the quick feedback. I am nervously curious about your more extensive tests.

I ran 20 or so scripts which downloaded data from the internet, added it to databases, made calculations, and generated static web pages. So far everything has worked just fine. I will continue testing. I need to test how it handles data posted from web forms and how it runs the unix program Batik to generate svg map files. So far everything runs fine.

Thanks Ted -

Works 'right out of the box': great stuff!

All my servers are still running happily under Frontier 9.5 on OS X 10.4.11 but I maintain them using WebEdit via OPML Editor on various newer machines. I upgraded a MacBook Air to Mavericks when it was released, but as we know it broke OPML Editor. Thanks to your new build (and Brent's efforts) I can now upgrade my other kit to Mavericks.
