Hi

I'm a licensed user of Foxtrot Personal Search. It has been running on a 12" Macbook.

After updating to the latest version of Sierra, I was unable to open a search window. The search window appears very briefly and disappears. I've now updated to High Sierra and the problem remains. I have FT 6.0.2 build 1713. Selecting 'New Search Window' produces the same quick glimpse of a search window with the text 'No Items Selected', but the window disappears in a fraction of a second.

The 'Enter registration code' line of the Foxtrot dropdown is active. Entering the correct code has no effect.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello,

Hmm, it looks like your application is damaged. Try restarting downloading a fresh copy and replcing the existing install.

Thank you and kind regards,

Hi Jean-Michel

Thanks for your reply.

I have tried that. Before I installed a fresh download I dragged the app to trash and restarted, but I get the same problem.

Best wishes
Helen

An empty window, with no title bar (only a close and a zoom button), only showing "no items selected" on a gray background, is the Quick Look window. You can close it using its close button, or by pressing the space key.

However, what you describe seems different than just the Quick Look window hiding the FoxTrot window; can you open Console.app (from /Applications/Utilities), select "system.log" in the console's left pane, click the "clear" toolbar button, then launch FoxTrot or select "New Search Window". Is something logged in Console.app's window?

"FoxTrot is way better and faster than Spotlight and seriously more
usable. With around 200000 docs on my 60Gig drive, using Spotlight
is just hopeless.
Searches with FoxTrot are just instantaneous and you can view them in
all sorts of ways. The preview is just wonderful."

Not sure how this is related to your problem, but this message shows that macOS can't launch FoxTrot system menu. Have you used Migration Assistant, or have you restored your macOS user account from a backup recently? Is your home folder named "helengibbons"? Have you tried to reboot your Mac?

Thank you Jérôme.

I've not used Migration Assistant or restored from backup. A reboot makes no difference, unfortunately.

A test install of FT Professional works fine, btw.

Not sure if attached screen shot helps (plist goes to prefs in 'Shared' folder)

Helen

Hi

I'm still without a working copy of FT Personal. Could you respond to my post of January 19th?

Many thanks

We finally found that the problem was coming from a problem with the preference file. Removing the file "com.ctmdev.FoxTrot.plist" (or "com.ctmdev.FoxTrotPro.plist", in the case of FoxTrot Pro) from the {home}/Library/Preferences folder resolved the problem.

"The searching is fairly flexible on iOS and the speed is blinding.
I mean instant, like you've got a Mac Pro doing it. If you use
Foxtrot Search, get FoxTrot Attaché. If you don't use Foxtrot Search
and you have a lot of files to search, check it out."
