back in december last year, we introduced api v2 [1]. it was an improvement in almost every way from v1 of our api, which had been active since early 2009. we took everything we'd learned since the start of foursquare and with our use of v1 and put all that thinking into the new version.

when we announced v2, we didn't specify exactly when we'd turn off v1. we wanted to make sure we gave you enough time as well as wait for our own apps to go live on v2 (all our official apps run on v2 now).

so, we're finally sharing a date when we'll shut off api v1: august 1, 2011.

please make sure you move your apps to api v2 as soon as you possibly can. you can start with the documentation here: http://developer.foursquare.com

a friendly reminder:

api v1 will be turned off in exactly 45 days! (august 1, 2011)

please make sure to update your apps so that they use api v2 instead. i promise it'll be a super easy and painless transition. for the latest documentation on v2, see http://developer.foursquare.com

oh look!

in exactly 35 days, api v1 will be turned off (august 1, 2011)

as we get closer to the date, we're going to slowly start degrading functionality in v1. this is partly to serve as warning that things will eventually stop (and partly as a fun exercise – haha!). it is of utmost importance that you switch over well before the deadline. we hope you won't say we haven't given you enough notice as we've been talking about this since api v2 went live in december of last year!

please make sure to update your apps so that they use api v2 instead. i promise it'll be a super easy and painless transition. we've been hearing from lots of big apps that have already done it and they love how fast the process is. for the latest documentation on v2, see http://developer.foursquare.com
