When I am editing a line of code

[nrose...@tolland.k12.ct.us]

I select the code or part of it and when I start to type, it starts to overwrite over everything including pulling the text behind the selection...similar to hitting the insert button in Word.  How do I avoid this happening? Is there a key combo to turn this off?
