This isn't exactly a FLEx question, but since it relates to the larger suite of SIL programs I thought someone in this group might know something useful.

Does anyone out there know about Dictionary App Builder?  I'm trying to troubleshoot a sound issue, and I haven't received any response to my online support requests.  The app builds fine, but there doesn't seem to be a way to access the thousands of sound files that have been added according to the instructions.  We have several audio files associated with each dictionary entry, representing different dialects.  (In LexiquePro, there is a sound icon next to the speaker's name.  Clicking on the icon plays the sound.)

I have gone through the documentation many times and have followed the instructions carefully, but I can't seem to get this to work.  I'd be grateful for any suggestions.  Even pointing me towards a good person to ask would be great!

I can confirm that I faced the same challenge, both in receiving support (no answer) and in the audio not working, despite trying all the possible permutations that the documentation suggested.

It would be helpful to have an answer for this. I've thought for some time now it would be nice to have a separate email list for all things Scripture/Dictionary/Literacy App related. Would there be interest in this?

Thanks,

Lisa & Steven,

Ok, I am not the only one.  I have tried adding sound both as a pronunciation media file and as a separate writing system.  Neither will show up in the app.

Anyone know what to do to get these to work?

I'm wondering if the problems have anything to do with permissions.  The documentation states that additional permissions are required for distribution of sound files via SD card (external folder) or via internet (download as needed).  However, when I look at the Permissions tab in the App section, I see "No permissions are required for this app," regardless of the sound distribution method I have specified in the Audio section.  This cannot be changed.  Is it possible that a permissions issue is blocking sound links?  (I'll try posting this follow-up question on the other list when I am able to post and respond there.)

I have on good authority that this is a problem that has come up in the new edition.  If you go back to the 1.0 you will get the audio to work properly.  I am going to test it later but wanted to pass along what I was told this evening.

Thanks for the tip!  I'll give that a try as well.

I got it to work.  The Audio writing system has to be the same as the one that the sound is used for.
XYZ-US writing system becomes XYZ-US-audio-x or something like that.
tested on FLEX 8.3 alpha
