More than 6 months ago, I was put in contact with someone wanting to import his SFM data into FLEx. I gave him some advice, then heard nothing more from him—until this week. Turns out he decided to import it into Lexique Pro instead. But he still wants to have his data in FLEx, so he has produced a LIFT file from Lexique Pro, which he is attempting to import into FLEx. He has sent me the LIFT file, saying that the import keeps failing. Apparently, there is no error message, but he sees no data after the import, and he’s wondering what is wrong with his LIFT file or what he is doing wrong. (He is very happy with his data in Lexique Pro, and indeed even used it to produce a “near-perfect app” with Dictionary App Builder.)

If there is someone on this list who is competent at interpreting LIFT files (I am not!) and who would like to take this opportunity to help this person with his import, please contact me, and I will send you the LIFT file and the individual’s contact information.

Thank you!

Current technology makes it possible to provide those translating into just about any language with both a dictionary and a thesaurus in the target language, the standard tools of the trade for professional translators, so why are mother-tongue translators in minority languages still expected to do their work without these tools?  Ask me about Rapid Word Collection after reading about it at rapidwords.net.

Related to this:
Last weekend I decided to create a fork of my project by exporting the database as Lift and then reimporting it into a clean project. I tried this first under Wasta Linux 12.04, and my first attempt at importing the lift file I aborted after a few minutes when I did not see any apparent progress in the progress bar. Then I thought I may not have been patient enough, and started a new attempt late in the afternoon, and indeed saw some slow progress. I aborted that attempt next morning, and the progress bar hadn't even reached the halfway mark. I then used the same lift file to import into a new project on the Windows side of my computer, and that took fully three minutes. So there seem to be some differences in Lift functionality in the various FLEx distributions.
