Dv-laa-ha~ (Hello) everyone,

I'm trying to help transition my language team from version 6 of Fieldworks to version 7. For various reasons, we're unable to upgrade to version 8 until there are a couple of specific bug fixes taken care of. I've attempted to find the download of 7.2.7 (what I believe to be the final stable release in the v7 lineup) on the SIL website, but it only contains the various iterations of version 8. If anyone happens to have a copy of 7.2.7 that they could send me I would greatly appreciate it.

I apologize if this is a more off-topic post than this forum is used to seeing, but this group is my best bet at this point!

Kind regards,
Scott D. Sullivan

Scott,

8.2.9 is already a couple of years old. It would be helpful to understand what needs to be fixed. Is it a problem in FLEx or your dictionary. Either way, we should be helping you get moved to more current version than version 7.

Paul,

The problem is that currently in version 6 we have our variants ordered in a specific way (in the entry view): 1s, 2s, 3s, 1d, 2d, 3d, 1p, 2p, 3p, Passive. When we import that data into version 7 of flex, they maintain that order. However when we try to import the data into version 8 of flex, the entries show up in a random order, and there is no way to change them back to the order we need them to be in. After talking to Ann and Beth it's my understanding that there was a database structure change that is the reason for this.

The issue has been reported: https://jira.sil.org/browse/LT-11498 and https://jira.sil.org/browse/LT-18000 (a bit of a duplicate, I think)

I had put together a little bug report to try to explain in better detail what I'm talking about, you can view it here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1JsT7Gz6W-pwawp0rUqtjUaVuSuwz8MqmYdIouu-n9-Y/edit

As you can see, the bug was initially reported 6 years ago. I understand the constraints of open source volunteer software development, which is why I'm trying to at least get a copy of the last stable release of version 7 while this bug is being considered.

Hope this helps you understand why I need that file!

Best,
Scott

Hi, Scott.

I don’t know how big your dictionary is already and how much is already invested into modeling these as variants.

Another way to express this information would be to treat these as complex forms.  We do have the ability for the user to specify the order of subentries.  We didn’t add the ability to set the order of variants.

Beth

Hi Beth,

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, we have well over 17k entries entered in this manner so it would be impossible (time-wise) to go back and change it.

Thanks!

Scott
