Is there a way to export a copy of FLEx but while omitting certain fields in the lexicon? A student of mine wants to create a new version of his FLEx project without certain fields but doesn't want to simply eliminate those fields from the current version of his project.  Is there any way to do this?

Thanks,

If you are in the Lexicon Edit view, and then you do File/Export, you will see a lot of options for exporting.  Any of the "Configured" options are supposed to follow the configuration you have done.  However, for many of them, it has more to do with which *entries* are filtered, rather than which *fields* are configured not to show.  I recommend experimenting with them to see exactly what happens for each of them.

These don't get a lot of use, so some of them are not very robust.  (For instance, trying to re-import from the "Configured SFM" export is not necessarily easy or obvious.)  And in FieldWorks 8.3.x we are considering discontinuing "Configured SFM" and one or two other of the "Configured" exports.  We would like to hear if anyone uses them.

Actually, to do what your student wants, I think a better route would be this:

 - Make a backup of the project.
 - Start to restore the project.
 - At the point it asks if you want to overwrite your existing project, tell it "No", and give it a new name.
 - Then you will have a completely new project that is a copy of the first one.  Now you can delete fields.

Thanks for your suggestion from August, Beth.  I only just noticed it now - sorry :)

It is too bad we don't have an issue tracker for user workflow issues... so that we quickly see if request for help has been solved or answered.
