Hi

We have an app which main function is search and which retrieves information in realtime from our webservers. I.e. an Internet connection is needed and content is not stored in app.
Imagine a cookbook where you search for a recipe
(I am not a developer so please excuse my poor explanation)

My question is - is app indexing an alternative for such an app? Or is it only a feature for apps that store all content locally?

Hi David,

A lot depends on exactly what you mean by "retrieves information in realtime from our webservers." Generally speaking, App Indexing would be used to show the content from your app when someone searches on the mobile device, or, to quote the intro, "Firebase App Indexing gets your app into Google Search."

So if the app contains the data from your site, you can probably use this to index it in Google Search. But you can't use it to crawl your site and render that content within the app.
