Does Firebase supports HTTP2 automatically like App Engine?

Hey David,

Good question--which Firebase feature are you asking about? I assume that given the context, you're asking if the Firebase Realtime Database supports HTTP2?

If that's the case, these clients use a custom websocket like protocol in addition surfacing an HTTP REST API, and don't support HTTP2.

Thanks,

Hi Mike,

I'm actually referring to Firebase Hosting. Looks like it's not supported right now, though I'm wondering if that's coming? That would be a huge win for apps built with Polymer.

Btw, awesome talk! Thank you!

It's coming, but we don't have a specific timeline to announce yet. I'm also excited to see Firebase Hosting get those http/2 superpowers!

Hi David,

I'm going to add this to the feature requests and also ping the Polymer team about it. Could you ping me off-list and elaborate on why this is a hang-up for Polymer, so I can be up to speed?

☼, Kato

Hi Kato,

I know you asked David to ping you off list but wanted to mention that I just watched many I/O talk and all the web talks mentioned progressive app and the PRPL pattern (https://www.polymer-project.org/1.0/toolbox/server#prpl-pattern) which needs servers  with HTTP2.

Thanks
Raphael

Thanks, Matt! I'll add my own sentiments here: The peeps working on our Hosting features are a pretty amazing bunch.
