Details about Scope of Firebase and it's capabilities

Greetings,

What can Firebase do? What is it intended to be used for?

If I wanted to write an app like Spotify that can play lists of audio, even when a device is locked, and maybe have lock-screen controls and display meta data about the song and what not, could Firebase do that?

A web page stops firing the playback-ended event when a device is locked or the web page is otherwise inactive. So you can really only finish playing the current song. But an App can ask the user for permssions that allow it to continue to do things even with the device is "asleep" or locked.

From what I see in the docs I think Firebase can do basic web stuff. But in a quick search I don't see anything about app permissions or media playback. (But I am totally new to writing apps, so I may not know what to search on...)
