Our company is creating custom Android and iOS apps for our customers, so we have lots of mobile apps connecting to a common Firebase project.

We'd like to use Firebase features like Analytics and Crash Reporting in each app, and this requires us to go to the console and "Add App" so we can get a Google app ID for each custom app.

Is there a way that we can programmatically get a Google app ID instead of manually adding the app through the Firebase console's "Add App" button?

Hi Brian,

Glad you're building lots of Firebase apps :)

Unfortunately there isn't a programatic way to create these apps--we've considered it, but it's too big of an abuse vector at present :(

That said, if we offered a way through Android Studio or XCode to create a new Firebase app and automatically add our configuration info to your app, would this help out?

Thanks,
--Mike

Just to chime in and say that to be able to create apps for each flavor and update the .json from AndroidStudio automatically would be a lot of help.

I know this was addressed to Brian, but this sounds like such a useful idea that I couldn't help but chime in. Anything to simplify the process would help. I am working on two projects with Firebase and the first was manual frameworks, the second is using Cocoapods. I'd prefer Carthage or a built-in option sounds best of all.

Tommie

For clarity, we have 1 Firebase project that services MANY apps. We're trying to figure out a way to avoid the manual process of adding each app to our 1 Firebase project through the console.

Yes, if there's a way to create a new Firebase app in Android Studio/XCode and add configuration, that would help.

Brian,

There is a Firebase plugin for Android Studio if you're using 2.2 or later.  Look under Tools/Firebase.  It's not programmatic, but it may help.

Truly programmatic access sounds like a feature request.  Could you describe the details of what you're trying to do in this form?  It will get triaged and prioritized.

This is also an issue for us. In version 2.5x of the Firebase SDK it was possible to run many apps using the same Firebase Project. Now that we've updated to 3.x we have to manually add the package ID each time we create and publish a new app (sometimes 10 to 15 a week). We're now going to have to revert back to SDK 2.5x until we can find a programmatic solution for this.

Any updates on whether this is possible yet? There are so many great features for mobile apps in Firebase but the manual process of adding iOS and Android apps in the console with all the fingerprints is so time consuming.

Using Firebase Functions to add these apps would save us so much effort. Any ideas when this might be available?

As mentioned previously, it's best to submit these +1s as a feature request so we can track them. Be sure to include a description of why you need to create so many apps so we can better understand the underlying use case.

Hello everyone,

We also build apps in bulk at our company, and the only step that is still manual when building the Android release APKs is creating the application in the Firebase Console, and updating the json locally. If there could be a safe way to communicate with your service, it would be great!

Regards,

Fernando.
