modify excerpt

I have just subscribed my wordpress site with a feed but the problem I
have is that the excerpt is the entire content of the blog post. is
there anyway to force character limit for excerpt?

Wow, so sorry you never got an answer, I've been looking for hours on how to do this.  I really don't care, but I have to do this for work.  The way to do on feedburner doesn't work and they have no support.
