The Problem:
The iTunes explicit and author tags within the code for a specific episode contain incorrect information.

Explanation:
Let me preface this with the fact that I did not write nor have access to the original feed code. I created an account and posted an audio file on mp3.com, which automatically creates an RSS feed for the account. Unfortunately, I found that the feed created by mp3.com was read as invalid by iTunes ... enter FeedBurner.

After running the feed through FeedBurner, it is now successfully read by iTunes. However, I noticed that the artist name was showing up as "mp3.com" rather than the actual band name "Mudcat Grant."

I searched the XML Source on FeedBurner in an attempt to find the point at which the problem is occurring. As I stated above, the explicit and author tags within the code for a specific episode (the only episode I currently have) are incorrect. This leads me to believe the problem lies with the feed mp3.com is providing. I do not believe the mp3.com XML source is manually editable. Therefore, I'm hoping the FeedBurner source is.

Any insight into how I may be able to adjust the FeedBurner (or even mp3.com) XML source will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hi Jason,

It is not possible to edit the XML source in FeedBurner directly at the moment.

However, there is a field "Podcast author" in SmartCast. Have you tried to use that?

A further look can be taken if you post the URLs of your FeedBurner feed and its original feed here.

Yes, I did use Podcast Author in SmartCast. Following are the original and FeedBurner feeds ...

Original:
feed:// www.mp3.com/mudcatgrant/artists/21731917/summary.xml

FeedBurner:
feed://feeds.feedburner.com/mudcatgrantmusic

My initial inquiry was in regards to the XML Source I was seeing under the "Optimize" tab within FeedBurner. However, after viewing the source code for these feeds within my browser, I noticed that it is, in fact, the original mp3.com source code that contains the incorrect "author" name. I assume that overrides what FeedBurner sets as the author name?

I suppose it's time to shift my inquiries to the mp3.com forums. However, if anybody around here has any experience with mp3.com and its feeds, your assistance is appreciated.

Thanks.

Jason,

In your FeedBurner feed, the author information seems not MP3.com.

<itunes:author xmlns:itunes=" http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd">Mudcat Grant</itunes:author>
<itunes:owner xmlns:itunes=" http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd">
<itunes:email>noe...@noemail.com</itunes:email>
<itunes:name>Mudcat Grant</itunes:name>
</itunes:owner>

and
<dc:creator>Mudcat Grant</dc:creator>

It seems that FeedBurner has tried to change the author information of your feed. But unfortunately, it seems failed and your FeedBurner feed does not validate.

This MAY be a bug of FeedBurner since it does not remove the existing author information in the original feed.

Thanks for your assistance. It appears I'm just SOL for the time being.

I have a similar question. I want to add a tag so the length of my podcast will display in iTunes. There is no option for this in feedburner. I know how to add the xml code myself but feedburner won't let me. Does anyone know a workaround for this? Also if someone who works for feedburner reads this, please add the feature to include your podcast length. It seems like a no brainer to me. The xml source code to do it is incredibly simple.
