2 steel poles, not aluminum
By R. Showalter
I have 2 other Kelty tents & a tarp. This tent has 2 steel poles & 1 dac pole for the hula hoop. The steel poles have paper thin (literally 3 sheets of copypaper) ferrules. They shatter easily. I broke 2 on the same pole. Called Kelty to try to upgrade to dac poles, which is advertised. They said they'd fix the steel pole, that's all- nonnegotiable. I sent it back. Neat design, but poles not up to Kelty standards, in my opinion.

Kelty Hula 6
By Monica
I set it up as a trial in the backyard before the campsite in South Dakota. If you've set up a tent before this one is definitely a one-person deal although it does go a bit faster with two. The orange, hula pole is a continuous loop with shock-cord so you'll need a tree or something solid to push against as you connect the last two (opposing) ends (four poles - two on each end). You'll see what I mean... Not! a big deal!!
We had a blazing thunderstorm the second night at the site and two of my three (20-something) sons slept right through it without noticing. Not a spot of water even though they were on a slope (not in a ditch, though, thankfully). We did purchase the coordinating footprint. Later that week we got hail a bit bigger than peas. Again, the tent stood solid and without water.
CONS: The door leaves a little to be desired imo. VERY difficult to roll up the door on the rain fly with one person and that's the only way to secure it out of
the way. This tent is just a little cumbersome to get in and out of. That's the reason for 4 stars vs. 5. The rainfly is both a blessing and a sauna. Great, full protection from the rain but might impede ventilation. Sons said it was quite toasty in there in the morning sun.
PROS: Great brand (our second Kelty, this replaces an old 12x12 Eureka!). Impressive quality. Sons LOVED the huge head space created by the hula pole! We didn't use the vestibule at all but even the ground within the vestibule stayed dry in our storms! Everything (including footprint) fits back into the duffel. We got a wonderful price through Amazon for a 6-man tent. I have now purchased poles to stake out the green door of the rainfly. I think that will be a smart addition but haven't tried it out yet.

Set up couldn't be easier
By phil
Set up could not be easier. Very spacious. Getting it all back in the supplied bag was the only challenge. It's not a pack you'd be happy trekking the Appalachian trail with due to weight, but a great family tent that exudes quality.
