Perfect tent to pack for motorcycle touring.

Although there are other lighter tents out there that would be more better suited as a backpack tent than the Tessel 2, this 2+ person 3 season tent packs down to a size and weight perfectly suited for kayak or motorcycle touring.
I gave this tent five stars for:
- Living space. The square-ish design of the hub and spar layout maximize the interior volume.
- Vestuble volume. The spar over the entries extends outwards overhead to give a tad more volume for helmet and touring gear underneath for both your side of the tent and the other side for your pillion.
- Versatility when pitching the tent in the rain. When used with the optional footprint, the free-standing Tessel's hub and spar design makes for a solid frame to pitch the fly first so you can duck underneath to clip in the tent while protected from the wind and rain.
- A well ventilated and taut fly. Although the Tessel with all the ropes staked down can occupy more "real estate" than your average
pup tent, it does make for a sturdy tent able to resist thunderstorms and high winds.
Although there's a lot of mesh in the walls, the tub design of the tent floor has high enough sidewalls as well as a fly that extends far enough beyond the perimeter of the tent that I was kept dry despite wind driven rain. The "flat top" roof didn't trap any water despite a torrent of rain, but the design has the potential to sag and make contact with the ceiling mesh if the rain changed over into heavy moist snow.
My only minor quibble is that this tent comes with the bendy kind of tent stakes typical of most tents and not enough of them. Replace them with the more and of stout variety that can take a pounding into gravelly soil.

Cozy in the rain

This tent has excellent ventilation. No exaggeration. You'll be able to relax and watch the rain fall outside. Two twenty five inch mats will fit perfectly. I gave my Tessel to stray cats who live in the backyard, and the tent lasted from springtime until just a few weeks ago. Impressive. A 1/4"-1/2" ice shower last October(?) didn't bring it down, but did make the fly rest upon the mesh. It's a nice little tent for 3 season campground camping. Pack size is too large and heavy for backpackers. I paid about a C note on clearance.
