I'd like to start by apologizing for this offtopic post.
As we all know Mr. Merkey has plaged this list for some time with his
ocassional rude and irrational outbursts against various Linux users,
developers, and orgs.

I usually take advantage of these outburts to poke fun at the overactive
rage and ego of Mr. Merkey both publicly and privately. I've found that
such messages ease both myself and others from the undue stress caused by
his lack of professionalism and emotional control.

In the below forward private thread, Mr. Merkey appears to threaten me
with bodily hard, and I respond with an attempt at humor and a URL to the
automatic insult generator http://anything.really.fuckingsucks.net/

Obviously, Mr. Merkey didn't 'get it' which would not be supprising to
anyone who has followed his current or past exploits here.

He then proceedes to threathen me with legal action. I find this kind of
behavior extreamly distructive to the freedom of expression on this list.

So, I've decided to forward the thread (unedited) to the list, partially
in an attempt to cover my butt, but mostly to give the rest of you a good
laugh.

Greg,

Christmas Island is immune to most legal processes (except war),
however, posting what you did (death threats) is a felony in the United
States. Since it was posted to a web server in the US, our laws apply.
The "really fucking sucks" website is also in violation of federal law,
and we will seek an order to tone it down since it resides within the
plenary jurisdiction of the US (California). This has been turned over
to Andrew McCullough and my attorneys -- I have instructed them to file
for a criminal order in US District Court -- they will file tommorrow.
What this means is if you ever enter the US or a US possession, you will
be immediately arrested and put in jail when they see your VISA and
identify you. Death threats are not funny and are something I take very
seriously.

Before I go through with this, I'd like to know if this was a joke, or
if you really do want to kill me or enlist others to do so? If it's a
joke I have until the morning to stop the legal process. I hope you
were joking. If I do not hear from you -- we will move forward. Once
the process starts, I cannot stop it.

Regards,

Jeff

Greg,

I take it you were joking since you posted this to linux-kernel?

Thank God, I was wondering when the guys with machine guns were going to
show up. With the situation in Utah Valley with Novell, I have to
wonder sometimes. This place really is the Wild West. When I saw your
post this morning, I assumed Christmas Island had not declared war on
me. Andy McCullough is back on his chain -- everything is stopped.

Back to the 2.3 VFS Coding. If I don't get this done, Alan is going to
string me up.

Nice to know I mde a new friend.

Your friend,

Jeff

Here's what Greg Maxwell and his Christmas Islands friend Riley WIlliams
like to send people over the internet. I had no idea this was an auto
script -- it looked real -- and scary.

The more I think about it, the more I find that jeff-merkey really
fucking sucks.<p>
</head>

In fact, jeff-merkey is quite possibly one of the worst damn things
on the planet. If jeff-merkey disappeared today, I would not shed
a tear. In fact, I think I have discovered the only solution. I will
utterly destroy jeff-merkey. Attention all government agencies:
This is a threat. It is a real threat. I intend to completely eradicate
jeff-merkey. There will be no negotiations. Jeff-merkey
will cease to exist once my plan has been implemented. The FBI, NSA, and
the CIA are all powerless to stop my Jihad against jeff-merkey. My
holy war will not stop with jeff-merkey. Keep a close eye on the
really.fuckingsucks.net domain, because there are a multitude of things
that really fucking suck. I will destroy them one by one, jeff-merkey
being but a small sample of things to come.<p>

Is there something you think really fucking sucks? Odds are I do too. Be
sure to check back here for things you hate and you think should be
utterly destroyed.<p>

You are violating the copyright of that site by reproducing it without
permission. You could have just sent the URL like I did.

It's very sad to see that in a place where all guys should push in the same
direction, may born this kind of discussions.
I think Jeff was in a bad day when has said that things and I think ( hope )
that words is not its real thought.
So please stop the thread to stop the sadness.

Davide.

Just think: This could have been you. There but for the grace of God go I.
This is highly amusing, but it's about as germain as the virus warning I
sent out (and got HUNDREDS of flames about(I'm still not talking to you
limey, and you know who you are)) so I'm wondering - could this be taken
elsewhere?

Scott
(Who is very sorry about that Virii warning email, please stop flaming me)
