Hi,

has anyone of you experience with live streaming an extempore session?
Like you can see on watchpeoplecode.com, livecoding.tv or youtube.

I tried a combination of extempore+wavtap+obs for streaming and recording which produces good results but unfortunately I can't hear what I'm doing which is a bit unpractical ;)
The same setup with sonic pi instead of extempore did work fine.

Is there any specific setup to use with extempore or maybe some build in features?

Cheers,
Florian

Hi Florian,

I just use OBS and that works for me. No specific setup needed (on Win7).
Which OS are you using?

I use the latest OS X version.
It required already some work setting up wavtap since apple locked down quite a bit of the OS.
I think OBS is working fine. It looks more like an issue with WavTap, even so it worked fine with SonicPi.

I can't think of any reason why sonic pi would work and extempore would not.  Have you been setting the correct output device?  You can specify a specific output device using "extempore --device=3" (device id 3 for example only).  You can print a list of device id's to the console by running "extempore --print-devices".

Yeah, kinda weird problem.
I think its some issue with WavTap.... or with El Capitan and the new security approach from Apple...
Yes, I tried setting the device explicitly but that didn't help.

Luckily I found a workaround, actually two workarounds. So for anyone having a similar problem.

1. I use Soundflower and SoundflowerBed now. So Extempore is using Soundflower as a device which can be used by OBS as audio input and SoundflowerBed is routing the Soundflower output to the speaker/headphones.

2. Use the audio-midi-setup in OS X and create a multi output device, there you can select default speaker and wavtap or soundflower. So the audio is routed to both devices. That did work for me too.

Cheers,
Florian

Florian, when and where are you planning to stream?

I have no fixed schedule for streaming.
At the moment I'm learning Extempore and sometimes it produces some nice output :)

Normally I put the final recordings on my youtube or soundcloud channel.

For streaming itself I'm torn between livecoding.tv and watchpeoplecode.com both have some ups and downs.
However I will most likely use watchpeoplecode.com in the future.
