to COVID-19 Knowledge Accelerator, Study Design Code System Expert Working Group

7 people (BA, IK, JD, JJ, KS, MT, TN-R) participated today in up to 2 active working group meetings.

You are welcome to join the Code System Development effort -- see Invitation to join Expert Working Group. At this time we currently have 61 people signed up from 27 countries In 6 continents (Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Egypt, Finland, France, Ghana, Greece, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Nigeria, Peru, Romania, South Africa, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States)

The Evidence Evaluation and Reporting Tools Development Work Group discussed multiple developments:

  1. We suggested UMLS as an internationally free source for codable concepts for creating Group and EvidenceVariable Resources for the SRDR+ platform. The rationale for UMLS is that SNOMED CT is not freely available in all countries. This may require a UMLS-to-SNOMED CT translation for later integration with clinical resources that use SNOMED-CT codes.
  2. For the next major tooling developments for COKA, we anticipate a Systematic Review Results Reporter to support the data extraction needs for the Steroids for COVID-19 Systematic Meta-Review Protocol.
  3. The most recent development is the HAPI server has been updated to support FHIR version 5.4.0 which is he FHIR snapshot needed to support the EvidenceReport and related resources.   Now that this HAPI server is available we can set up a “Fast Evidence Interoperability Resources (FEvIR)” server, or a specialized instance of a HAPI server to support the Evidence-related resources.  This will provide a shareable space across the multiple tools and projects we are developing.

The Study Design Code System Development Steering Group reviewed the draft Study Design Code System for simplicity of application. The process led to some re-ordering of categories, splitting the Group Assignment category into 2 different categories, and moving the Clinical Research Regulatory Subsets category as a subset of Clinical Trial in the Context category.  The latest term set (with changes highlighted) has 56 draft terms and can be found here.
