Please share your resources related to an Observation and Assessment course here. See the attached document to see what content must be addressed in courses in California Community Colleges that are CAP aligned.

I wanted to share the following on-line resource http://toddlers.ccdmd.qc.ca/observing
It is not my site.  I found it as I was looking for resources to use in my observation and assessment methods class.  Here is some information taken directly from the site that will give you a little information about what is available.  The site is based in Canada as you will see.  I plan on using it to support my students in being able to observe children in action.  Since the new immunization law took effect in California it is becoming more and more difficult to gain access to child development centers for our students to observe.
Enjoy

ABOUT THE SITE

The site you are viewing is the result of a true labour of love. Created to support teachers and students who are exploring the rewards and challenges of observing young children, this site is the culmination of many hours of work and the gracious participation of children, families, educators, administrators and staff people at four child-care settings in the city of Montreal, in Quebec, Canada.

Featuring a collection of 200 short video clips, this site will provide users with a perfect window into the world of infants and toddlers and their daily experiences in child care. As well, users will see the wide range of tasks and roles that early childhood professionals take on each day. Finally, many of the clips highlight the importance of the partnerships that form between parents and the educators who care for their young children.

In addition to the extensive bank of short video clips, the site also features longer sequences designed to provide users with a more sustained experience. These longer sequences give viewers an excellent idea of just what goes on in Quebec child-care centres on a typical day.

Last, but certainly not least, there is the Exercises section of the website. This section features a set of short quizzes that teachers and students can use to explore various aspects of the task of observing young children. Skill in observing and recording the behaviour and development of young children is a crucial area of competence for educators, and the Exercises section will be a welcome source of information and support to anyone teaching and/or learning these skills.

Although the name of the site is Infants & Toddlers, the number of videos that show infants (children one year old or younger) is quite small. The majority of the clips show toddlers, children between the ages of one and three years old. We apologize for this limitation of our video repertoire. However, we would like to recommend that users who are looking specifically for infant material consult our sister site: Les poupons aux service de garde. This excellent French-language resource features 226 videos of infants and their caregivers.

Here is the Google Doc from the ECE OER Summit. This is currently still just a working document that has not be vetted (for licensing).

I'm looking at this site (http://toddlers.ccdmd.qc.ca/laboratory) as solution to my online students completing child observations when I adopt OER (and lose access MacMillan's video resources).  I notice the videos are not closed captioned as required by US federal law.  Anyone have other resources?  Lack of observation videos is my roadblock to offering OER.  Thank you!

Some of the videos here are captioned: https://www.cde.state.co.us/resultsmatter/rmvideoseries_practicingobservation

I have used them for in class observation practice, so I imagine they would translate well online.

Thank you! Also, I may have shared this already, my apologies if I did, but this Bank Street resource is available on their website - not behind a firewall. I emailed them about it's copyright and never heard back - I'm an alumna from there so I'll keep hounding! best, Mary Jane Biancheri

These are not openly licensed, but are captioned (although upon review it seems as if they are not properly captioned, so I would not use these). Focused Observation videos on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLknl7Z_QI4MzaXeOe3CjFqL_CLQa44yWO

I haven't had a chance to review this at all but the description (see below) looks like it might have items which could be useful.

http://www.oercommons.org/courses/introducing-observational-approaches-in-research-with-children-and-young-people/view

This free course, Introducing observational approaches in research with children and young people, introduces you to analysing academic writing and, in particular, the way an article might be structured to clearly explain an investigation to other researchers. It explores observation of children and young people using qualitative observation approaches in small-scale studies.

Instruction in Functional Assessment

Instruction in Functional Assessment introduces learners to functional assessment (FA), which includes a variety of assessment approaches (indirect, observational, and experimental) for identifying the cause of an individual's challenging behavior for the purpose of designing effective treatments. FA is mandated by federal law and is a recognized empirically based approach to treatment of individuals with challenging behaviors (e.g., disruptive, self-injurious, and aggressive behaviors). Instruction in FA is essential for students who will one day enter professions as educators, psychologists, social workers, counselors, or mental health professionals.

College of the Canyons has an OER textbook for this course. The following has been taken from the Google Group for the book, where resources and derivatives for the book can be shared.

Generic (without COC cover)
The original COC version
The book has also been added to the LibreText platform (which offers an LTI that will upload the content into your course management system, such as Canvas, in an iframe). This platform also allows users to easily customize and remix content to make their "own" book. You can view this book at https://socialsci.libretexts.org/Bookshelves/Early_Childhood_Education/Book%3A_Observation_and_Assessment_in_Early_Childhood_Education_(Peterson_and_Elam)

The book has been translated into Spanish by the Child Development Training Consortium. I have attached their original PDF and Word and then also turned them into a generic version that does not have the COC cover

COC Version in Spanish

Generic Version in Spanish

It is licensed CC BY, which means you can use, distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon it, as long as you give credit for the original creation and note if you make changes (I should note that you need to review the licenses of the source content as it's not all CC-BY).
