Play one audio file while presenting a list of words every 2 seconds

Hello,

I am currently designing an experiment using E-Prime 3.0. The design of the experiment is to have participants read a list of words (each words for 2 sec) while a song is played in the background.

For now, since music and words are to be played simanteously (though music is played throughout the procedure, words are shown one by one), I dragged TextDisplay and Sound-Out object into Slide objects. However, here were the results I got:

(1) (on Slide object) set Stop After to either "No" or "Yes", the music will only start after the list of words are finished presenting.

(2) Try TextDisplay and Sound-Out object as two objects in the timeline of procedure (not on Slide object), TextDisplay before Sound-Out, have Sound-Out object's PreRelease be set to "0",  music playing is fine, but only the first stimulus of the word list is played.

Do you guys know how to play a piece of song and a list of words together using E-Prime ? Looking forward to some insights or solutions from you !

Best regards,
YC

Hi, David,

Thanks for the sharing! I've followed the setting mentioned in the thread (to set Duration of SoundOut object to "0" and set Stop After to "no", but then the music still stopped every 2 sec (2 sec is the time frame of word presentation).

I here attach an E-prime file, structured with the design I had, for your reference. I also attach a sample song. I'd really appreciate it if you could offer me some guidance!!

Best,
YC

YC,

Thank you for attaching a stripped-down example .es3 file, that made
your problem clear.

Apparently the discussion at that thread was not clear. You simply need
to move your SoundOut object ahead of the List that runs your words. E.g.,

- BlockListProc
--- BackgroundMusic
--- PosBlockList
----- PosBlockProc
----- Words

That will do it!

Hope that helps,

Hi, David,

Thank you very much for the help! I've tried, and it worked :)
(Moving the SoundOut object ahead of the List where I played the word stimuli, and also setting Duration 0 in SoundOut object.)

Best,
YC
