[Dspace-tech] Error 503/ Error 404 while launching DSpace

Dear Memebers,

I have followed the standard procedure of installing
DSpace and Tomcat. After fresh install, I copied the
WAR files to /tomcat/webapps directory. Then I started
the Tomcat service.

I am now able to get the default TOMCAT webpage at
http://localhost:8080/index.html and able to browse
the JSP examples too.

When try the url http://localhost:8080/dspace
initially

I am getting

Error 503
Server is starting

When I refresh the page I get
Not Found (404)
Original request: /dspace/index.jsp
Not found request: /dspace/index.jsp

Is there any step I had missed out. I would like to
use Tomcat to serve the DSpace over the network.

OS is RHEL 4.0, Browser Mozilla Firefox and Dspace Ver
1.3.2

Thanks to Stuart David Lewis, the problem was with
permissions of /tomcat/work directories. Now when I
give http://localhost:8080/dspace I am encountered
with following error. I am unable to find any
reference for the same.
