My parents have a JVC LCD TV that died recently.  From what I can tell the panel and backlight seem to still be ok.  I think the control board is shot.  They already replaced the TV and as much as I would like to take a crack at it for a free TV, I'm working on moving and don't have the time or space to mess with it.  Would anyone like it to experiment with it, or would the space like to have it to try to have a 37" if anyone can get it working?

Please let me know ASAP otherwise they're going to take it to BestBuy for recycling.

We could definitely use a 37" for a display board, better than the 17" laptop screens we have. What would it take to replace a control board on an unknown year/model TV? I've replaced panels, backlights, and caps on monitors & laptops, but if it's not just the caps or some solder joint, how much is a control board? Are they even available? Cost prohibitive? Anyone done this before?

I (hoping at one point I could do it) was hoping one of those universal LVDS -> HDMI/VGA/Composite boards would work, but I don't know for sure.  Wouldn't have a tuner and you'd have to cut plastic on the back to probably get at the board, but would still net you a working display.  Or you could always try to find a replacement OEM board for the TV.  This is all assuming I'm right and it's the controller.

My largest worry was cost, but there appear to be some parts on ebay. Worst-case I'd have to haul it to Best buy myself.. PM/email me whatever details you were thinking.

Ok, so, Dad doesn't want to drive it downtown if he doesn't have to.  So, options are to meet with him somewhere probably north/nw DSM area (Grimes, Johnston, Waukee, WDM, etc), or he can get it to me, and I can get it to the space some time (soon).  Problem is my nights are booked for the next few weeks.  Deadline to get it out of their house is 4/10.  Let me know what works for you.

Sorry, short answer is no.
I took it apart and found no obvious blow caps, broken joints, broken or burned out ccfl tubes, fried wires or shorts. All diagnostics that are documented output to the screen, so you can't see them. There is also an optical diagnostic port, but no documentation regarding what it speaks. There is a decent manual archived online, search for "LT-37x668 service manual".  Anyone else want to take a crack at it*?
If it is the control board, here is the current cheapest replacement on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/JVC-SFN0D501A-DIGITAL-MAIN-BOARD-MODEL-LT37X688VAA-LCA10788-/231881828007  (I can't currently justify spending on a maybe)
*..all I ask is you don't open it up and leave, leaving parts laying around. If you want to try, please be sure you have enough time to reassemble it before you start.

Were you able to test the FETS? I understand it's a very common issue on those.
