Hobby Welding Class?

I'm curious if anyone knows of a 1-day class or weekend workshop where someone can go and learn the basic fundamentals of welding (specifically stick welding). I have a small stick/TIG welder and have messed around on some scrap steel. I'm quite good at disfiguring metal, but not terribly effective at making anything useful. However, I'm not ready to commit the time or money for a full university course. Google turned up nothing.

I took the DSM public schools Adult Ed welding class - it's really good. It meets week nights at Central Campus.

I know someone who has been wanting to teach welding. Would you want me to get you in touch with her? We don't have enough welders for full on classes at the space yet, but maybe we could start doing private-ish lessons?

Bailey - Sure, I'd be interested in whatever she might be willing to teach. If I can't figure out how to learn from someone who knows what they are doing then I'll just end up teaching myself through trial and error. That's how I have learned most things. But learning from someone would help be get there quicker.

I was in a class session last January, maybe it's not offered for this session?

I'll get in touch with the teacher and see if he knows what the schedule is. He may also be available to teach something for us too.

I haven't been over to see their new shop, they were getting ready to move down the hall, sounds like they have a bunch of new equipment there. Theu do several kinds of welding with gas, stick, mig wire, tig, brazing etc. They also have a big CNC plasma cutter.

Guy is itching to learn welding. He got a taste in class this semester, and wants more.

Private ish lessons sounds great :)

Got confirmation from Ralph at Central Campus, his next class will start on January 9th. I would highly recommend it, Ralph is a great welding instructor, and you'll have access to many types of welding equipment.
