On April 22nd, from 9-3 PM, I will be showing some Habitat for Humanity volunteers how to use routers.  I am going to try to do this work in the garage, but if our welder neighbor is working then I will have to do the demonstration inside.

It's been a long winter, and the space has gotten pretty cluttered with stalled projects, loose material, and haphazard tool/equipment storage.  For our own sake and for the sake of our community image, I am asking for a general Spring Cleaning.  Justin has been doing a great job of spiffing up the place, and I would like to continue that trend.

I will be in the Makerspace on and off throughout the week to do general cleanup and reorganizing.  I would like to ask for people to help a little bit every time they are in: many incremental changes will add up to a clean space.

I am going to clear the back hallway so that we can use it for storage.  We emptied it for construction, but construction has been delayed indefinitely.  With this extra space we should be able to clear projects, little-used equipment, and material.  The "storage area" of the garage is available, though already crowded.

Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Out of curiosity, did Tim give you training or check out on routers, because I haven't?  Just making sure we follow our established rules, as routers are very easy to damage skin and bones...and eyes.

There's a Space workday on the calendar for Thursday.

I will be cleaning out the cube I stuffed with MacBooks for someone's use. If anyone has more than one cube, please consolidate because I'm getting a lot of requests for storage.

Don't throw out the vacuum former when you clean out the closet, please.

I have not. Ben, did you check with Chris whether it's ok to use his router/table in the garage? Might be better to get trained and keep the tools inside.

My big concern is someone who is not trained or at least checked out, teaching others.

There is already a note on my router table that it is not for general use, and since the space router is ordered, I am taking mine out to bring home.

There is also the issue of not having ant 1/2" router bit to use for teaching.  Someone better get a 1/2 to 1/4" adapter procured.

I have an adapter.

The space router just got to my house Friday. Would you be available during open house (or sometime) to help put the table together and get it set up?

I didn't realize that the hand routers were treated differently from the other hand tools.  Would you have time to train me before the 22nd?

Sure, glad to help. We don't have the lift yet, but we should be able to get it going and add the lift.

It has the ability to remove a finger or shoot your (or someone else's) eye out, I'd say it crosses the line for needing training.

Ben, if you don't have time to come down tonight, please call me tomorrow. We likely have to cancel this workshop.

Reminder to you and all the members: You must be trained to use most/all power tools at the space. Visitors may not use power tools in the space. Members are allowed to bring guests, but only members can use our tools. For liability reasons, we cannot make exceptions.
