Hi All,
Linus and I were trying to get the following to install on a BBB Debian:

sudo apt-get install gawk gcc-arm-linux-gnueabihf g++-arm-linux-gnueabihf

The install failed when it could not find gneabihf: E: Unable to locate package gcc-arm-linux-gnueabihf

We tried doing an update to the Debian, but no joy.

The version of gcc (Debian 4.6.3-14) 4.6.3 on the BBB

Comments?

Regards,
Tom C AVD

I think you need GCC 4.8 or above.

Hi Chris,

Agreed, but we could not get gcc to update and do not know why.

Off the top of my head, the next thing I would try is to run "apt-cache search <string>" where <string> is something like "gcc" or "gcc-arm-linux" to see what packages are available to install.  Maybe they've named the package a bit differently, or it's just not available in that distribution?

Regards,

Curt.

Hi Curt,

Unfortunately gcc version 4.8 or 4.9 is not in the Debian essential build. It appears to be v4.7.

It looks like I will have to install the latest version of gcc by itself which, since I am not a Linux programmer by any means, will require help from the outside.
