The domain apps.nationalarchives.gov.uk was briefly used to provide PRONOM signature files, however this is shortly to be turned off from 28th September 2016. Please ensure that your DROID signature updates are set to retrieve from the following addresses:

Hi Galvin,

Yes, we will always publish newest signature files on the page you've linked to. We're preparing the next signature release right now and hope it will be with you shortly. Additionally you will always be able to connect to http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/pronom/service.asmx using DROID for example, to download the latest signature files.

For a brief period of time we were using a subdomain of The National Archives website - apps.nationalarchives.gov.uk - to serve DROID signature files, so this closure notice specifically relates solely to that subdomain. Some earlier versions of DROID had this subdomain set as the default address for retrieval of signature files so it may have been necessary for some users to adjust their configuration settings.
