1 - Where are the error logs for dotCMS 1.9.4.2 located within the installation?
2 - We can't see any logs listed in CMS Maintenance >> Log Files

Thank you.

The logs are in tomcat/logs/

Most likely you will find what you are looking for in dotcms.log .. but some things that are not caught by Log4J go out to standard out, which is piped to catalina.out.

For the log viewer in the CMS Maintenance, there is probably a path problem.  You will have to see if there is an error in the log.

Hope it helps, Chris.

Odd, tomcat/logs is empty, absolutely nothing in it. Permissions on this directory are: 755

Thanks

I might be talking apples and oranges here, but in dotcms 1.7 you'll find them under {source code root}/logs

Yes, that's it. {INSTALL_DIRECTORY}/logs, not {INSTALL_DIRECTORY}/tomcat/logs

Are the file/folder permissions set correctly? Sorry, don't know much about dotCMS 1.9, sounds like it could also be a configuration setting.

what does your log4j.xml look like.

1.9 should NOT be logging to {INSTALL_DIRECTORY}/logs but
{INSTALL_DIRECTORY}/tomcat/logs

Can you send us an ls of your {INSTALL_DIRECTORY} also

The log4j.xml should be in tomcat/lib

ok so you are not running our out of the box dotcms. Looks like you
deployed as a WAR.

The reason the logs don't work in the UI is because you need to set
the directory. Just FYI the way you are installed isn't really an out
of the box supported path though it can work does require a number of
things to happen to get some things working.

FOr the log thing set TAIL_LOG_LOG_FOLDER=/your/full/path/tologdir

Will try that, thanks.

What do we have to do to make the site search work? Is there another pref to set?

did you set up a crawler that can crawl? Using port ip. Keep in mind
it must all be locally meaning from the server resolvable.

Also, be mindful that there was a bug (I think) in the site search prior to <1.9.5 which was you needed to specify the port, even if your sites are running on port 80.

so question.

Can your server meaning where dotcms is running resolve your dotcms
pages using http://beta2.domain.com
To solve this you may need to add to your hostfile.

also verify that commands like du can be run from the user dotCMS is
running as.

Thanks,

Don't have an answer to your question yet, however our log file grew within an hour from 5MB to 11MB so I deleted the indexing cron job.

Here is the error which which is constantly written to file:

Are you running a full reindex?

Did you make a change on a structure that has a lot of content?
