Hi Hugh

The CD's are available at ddd.dda.dk. 1787, 1801/03 and 1845 are
complete. 1834 is nearly there. Bornholm is complete and available from
www.bslf.dk.

KIPBrowser can do exactly that. It is very fast and has a very good
phonetic search algorithm.

And now that the censuses are delivered in ZIP format, it can search
inside the zip files. Which means that you can zip all your files and
reduce the space used without taking any noticable hit on performance.
It is available at www.nsoft.dk and it is freeware.

For those interested I managed to construct a single command to zip all
the files in the directory. If you use Infozip's freeware zip it would be

Automatic search for "tandlæge" in all 13766 censuses took 20 minutes on
a 1300MHz laptop and found 51 censuses among them.

1881 England Scotland Wales are on 24 cds plus viewer
from LDS and I think it was a dentist who started that search idea LOL

I have been using the set almost daily for 5 years since I found my much
loved farmor on them
and I was hooked

England and Wales are on line as freebies at familysearch.org
and as a free index to subscription only images
at ancestry.com
so we can begin to sort out typos and post corrections as alternate names

It would be nice to see the Danish census at ddd linked to the images

Jeg fandt den og installerede den. Det ser ud som om, at man skal
unzippe, før man bruger den. er det rigtigt forstået?

Jeg kørte den direkte på mit directory med 13766 zippede filer. Det tog
7:49 minut og fandt ingen hits.

Det sparede mig trods alt et par giga at zippe, så det passede mig fint
med zip-supporten i det andet program. Hvis jeg tager fejl, og de kan
bruges parallelt ville jeg kun være ekstra glad, for den ene søgning
finder altid noget, som den anden ikke finder.

Correct, but our census CD is only available to members of bslf (Bornholms
Slægts- og Lokalhistoriske Forening).
