Hi,

We're planning our next iteration of server project. I'd like to know which version will become next LTS version after 1.4?

BTW. we plan to use Python 3.4 ;)

Hi Cheng,

The next LTS version hasn't been decided yet. Our LTS policy isn't based on a strict timeline (e.g., a new LTS every N years); the choice to make a release an LTS release is made based on the perception of that release's stability.

On that basis, given the large number of new features introduced in 1.7 (migrations, App loading, etc) it's probably safe to say that 1.7 will *not* become an LTS release. Beyond that, it's difficult to judge which release will become the next LTS.

Yours,
Russ Magee %-)

1.4 is LTS until March 2015. Based on past release schedules, 1.8 should be released a few months later.

We could extend 1.4 support a bit and then make 1.8 the next LTS. In my opinion, that's the most reasonable plan.

That said, Russell rightly points out that we haven't made a definitive decision yet.

I really hate to dig up an old thread, but was curious if there were additional discussions or decisions regarding LTS.  As much as our large, commercial project would love to stay on the cutting edge, our maintenance scenarios require that we settle in on a release for awhile.

I'm concerned that we will soon have no supported LTS version and no recommendation for which previously-released version to settle on until a new LTS release is announced.  Does anyone have any recommendations?  Thanks in advance for any guidance you can provide!

The current plan appears to be that 1.8 will be the next LTS, with 1.4 keeping security support until 6 months after 1.8's release. We will be having a core meeting in 10 days in Amsterdam, I'll make sure it's finalised.

See the thread on this list titled "1.8 release planning" for details on the current proposal (If 1.8 is the next LTS, support for 1.4 would be extended 6 months after 1.8 is released, etc.). Feedback on that proposal appreciated.
