Whoa! I wonder what they mean by direction. Does it use a phased array, or some form of beam forming?

I don't believe this will give you a distance and bearing to a fixed obstacle.  It will give a velocity and if the object is approaching or departing.  That is my take on it anyway.

It sounds like a simple Doppler system like the kind used in home security systems.  Notice it doesn't give distance.
