Hi

I am writing from Sweden there we have an organisation named Bionyfiken, literary biocurious (personally I have not been involved, but so far they seem to work most with tDCS), we just started to look at laws and safety for working with gmos in a biohacker space. Laws are different in different countries but I hope you could help us with safety precautions, and if there are community regulations?

Thanks in advance

Hi A,
As Sweden is in the EU, it likely follows the EU directive on the
subject, but the precise law and how it works is entirely a Swedish
matter, so you'll have to do some digging yourself I'm afraid!

The EU directive, if I recall, tells countries to create a "competent
authority" who must regulate GMO work, and divides things into four
categories, loosely the same as biosafety levels. The competent
authority can just say no, or can say yes with conditions, or can say
yes without conditions.

The EU directive is out there in a few languages, but (sorry!) I can't
remember which one it is. Looking up GMO/GMM on an EU directive search
engine should turn something up.
